Six Flags Over Texas

Six Flags Over Texas is the most popular theme park in North America. It first opened in 1961 and has grown to be one of the largest theme parks on earth. The park offers seven roller coasters, all with different thrill levels for everyone!

The park features a variety of rides including some family-friendly ones like Scooby Doo’s Haunted Mansion or Mr. Six’s Splash Island. If you want more thrilling rides there's also the Batman Ride, Superman: Ultimate Flight, or The New Texas Giant (the world's tallest wooden roller coaster)!

If you're looking for something more relaxing check out the kiddie area where they can enjoy Tazzy Twirl at Tazmanian Devil Country!

The park has six roller coasters to choose from - that's a lot of options! The best choice for thrill-seekers would be The New Texas Giant because it tops out at 64 miles per hour and stands 153ft tall. I'm going to guess this was an unpopular opinion but if you're worried about heights then my next suggestion would be Batman: The Ride which only reaches 55mph (but still gives me butterflies). If your kids are into something slower-paced like Thomas & Friends or want their first time to be a positive experience.

This mammoth steel construction is so intense they have to come up with a whole new category for it – the hyper-twisted coaster. Hypercoasters are the modern breed of oversized roller coasters that is pumped up to more than 200 feet tall. Well, the Titan easily clears that distinction, with a mind-blowing 255-foot drop, and that’s just for starters. The drop is so massive, we’d forgive you if you were wishing this was just an ordinary hypercoaster right about now. But brace yourself for the twist: never before has a hypercoaster had such a twisted, gnarly track.

Something about this ice cream factory looks a little off, don’t you think?  It’s downright creepy. The deeper you venture, the more ominous this demented industrial wasteland becomes. In fact, you’ve stumbled into the lair of MR. FREEZE, BATMAN’s chillingly insane enemy!

Everything is bigger in Texas, and there’s no debate here – you’re looking at one of the best steel hybrid roller coasters in the world. What’s a hybrid? That’s a coaster that combines the best of all worlds – classic wooden architecture and the latest in high-tech steel engineering. It all adds up to the smoothest high-speed wooden course on the planet.

  • 37 mph
  • 122 ft [height]
  • 1,100 ft [length]
  • 60 sec [Duration]

This freestyle coaster will wreak havoc on riders. After being lifted straight up a 12-story, 90-degree hill, the free-style coaster flips riders head-over-heels at least six times along the weightless journey. Thrill-seekers will experience exhilarating leaps and dives along a horizontal plane, along with unexpected drops as they tumble from one level to the next. The wing seats amp up the pandemonium since riders will experience all of this chaos with no track above or below.

What Are The Six Flags Over Texas

The story has it that Wynne initially planned to call the park “Texas under Six Flags,” until his wife reminded him that ‘Texas wasn’t under anything.’

The six flags come from the six foreign nations that have governed Texas during its history. These flags include France, Mexico, Spain the Republic of Texas, the United States of America, and the Confederate States of America.

When the park opened in 1961, there were different sections for each country. Now, they are all together in one section. The Confederacy and France are now called Old South and France. There is still a Texas and United States section too. More sections have been added to the park over time, including Tower, Boomtown, Gotham City, and Goodtimes Square (now part of Gotham City). They total 7 themed areas.

In August of 2017, Six Flags changed all of their flags to the United States flag. People thought that this was strange because they had always flown the Confederate States of America flag before. Some people said that it was a bad decision and that it made Six Flags seem less patriotic.

Six Flags is the company that manages the park. They own 53.1% of the company that owns it, and a similar arrangement with Six Flags Over Georgia. A private equity firm managed by Dallas businessman Jack Knox bought the park in 1969.

Over the years, companies that managed the park had different options to buy shares in the fund. Six Flags Entertainment can buy the remaining 46.9% share in 2028. In 1991, Time Warner Entertainment managed the park. In 1998, Time Warner sold its shares of ownership of Six Flags parks to Premier Parks of Oklahoma City which became Six Flags Theme Parks Inc.
